Were you as shocked as I was when L'il Kim, shown at left with partner Derek Hough, was eliminated last night on Dancing With the Stars? All through the season, our professional dancer/predictor Louis van Amstel has said to me: "Don't underestimate the power of the audience vote." He has stressed how important it is that the celebrity dancers develop a fan base and let viewers get to know them; that they have an appealing personality to motivate votes. All of that apparently came to play Monday. (And so much for listening to me, right? I said I'd put money on Ty Murray leaving.) The humble cowboy, who has improved greatly but is no where near the dancer that L'il Kim is, was saved to dance another week even though he had the lowest scores of all the competitors. Tell me in a post below what you think: Was last night's elimination right?

If it were just about the best dancer, the vote would be decided by the professional judges. I believe people are understimating the “power of the cowboy”. Professional Bull Riding has a huge fan base, beside the fact that Ty Murray is an all around likable man who is easy to like.
It shocked me at first, quite a bit. But I took time to think it through, and Ty has 3 potential fan bases to draw from, and Kim only has two. I also think that Chuck and Julianne’s fans would have given their votes to either Ty or Shawn rather than Kim. Lucia is right, it isn’t just about dancing. If it was, Mel B would have won her season, and Mario Lopez would have won his.
True, Lucia. I guess Monday was a reminder that the audience/viewers do have power.
I’m fine with it. On dancing ability alone, Kim should have stayed. But, this show has NEVER been completely about how well someone can dance. The audience has always had a say.
