It’s Tony nomination day and I’m working on a June 7 special Who’s News report on the awards ceremony and show, which will air on CBS live that evening. No word yet on a host (last year Whoopi Goldberg did the honors) but there will be plenty of stars because this year was a particularly stellar year on Broadway and there are many familiar faces among the nominees, including:
• Country music superstar Dolly Parton for her original score of l 9 to 5: The Musical.
• Former The West Wing star Allison Janney for lead actress in 9 to 5
• Will Ferrell for his special theatrical event You’re Welcome America: A Final Night with George W. Bush.
• Movie star Jane Fonda, at left, for lead actress in the play 33 Variations, her first on Broadway
• Theater’s first lady, Angela Lansbury, for lead actress in the revival of Blithe Spirit
• The Sopranos‘ brilliant James Gandolfini, for lead actor in God and Carnage.
• Jeff Daniels and Marcia Gay Harden, also for God and Carnage.
For a list of all the nominees, click here. We’ll be talking to many of them today and tomorrow and will give you a sneak at what they say.
