Arnold died May 8, 2008 — a week before his 90th birthday and just two months after his wife of 66 years, Sally, died. The country star enjoyed success in the 1940s and ’50s as a singer and later with an eponymous TV show, which aired on CBS, NBC and ABC. By the early ’90s he had sold more than 80 million albums, and he retired in 1999, the day after his 81st birthday. He died of natural causes at a Nashville nursing home.
