Woman of steel: Diane Lane speaks on playing Superman’s mom in new movie

Fanboys are plenty excited that the iconic superhero’s going to have a hot mom in director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Superman: Man of Steel flick, and so is the actress playing Martha Kent, Diane Lane. “It’s going to be a wild ride,” she says. Unless you’ve been stuck in the Fortress of Solitude for quite a few decades, you know that in the Superman mythos, Kal-El — the last son of Krypton — is sent to Earth as a baby before his home planet is blown up. He crash lands in rural Smallville, where he’s taken in by farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent, who name their newly adopted son, Clark. They also bestow upon him a solid set of values that will help him later as he becomes the world’s greatest superhero, fights enemies like Lex Luthor and General Zod, and dons an oh-so-fashionable red cape. In Snyder’s new movie, which begins filming this summer according to Lane, Henry Cavill will play the Man of Steel and Kevin Costner is rumored to co-star as Jonathan Kent. In preparation, Lane recently watched another comic book movie, Watchmen, again “to remind myself of what an audacious, brilliant man Zack Snyder is,” she says. “I love 300 and I’m very flattered to play Martha Kent and live up to his vision. It’s pretty cool.” Lane, who can be seen next in the HBO film Cinema Verite, airing April 23 (and which we’ll have more about next month), is stoked about having Superman as a son. “I’ve always wanted to raise a good man,” she quips. “I thought that was the biggest challenge a woman could have, and so I get the embarrassment of riches.”

The Batman is the GREATEST Hero ever created.
Hopefully WB can get Superman back on track.
Tom Welling is a TV actor. He isn’t good enough to play a movie version of Superman.

I have no doubt that this new Superman movie with re-establish as the top hero. I should have been a no brainer for Tom Welling to wear the shield. But i have faith that Zack will take him to a new level of greatness.

Martha Kent is an easy role. Not too concerned. Diane will do well. Would have much preferred Tom Welling too, but Cavill will be ok. This flick will mostly be cgi action scenes. Not really possible for any actor to screw up here.

I just want this Superman movie to put Superman back on top of all the hero’s and superman movies and i wish it was Tom Welling for Superman
