Jared Harris worked on mostly period material when he was going to school for theater in his native England, so he’s used to immersing himself in the past — as he does playing 1960s adman Lane Pryce in AMC’s Mad Men and Ulysses S. Grant in the upcoming Civil War film Lincoln.
“I just got used to it, really,” the 50-year-old actor says. “The challenge is that you are able to convince people that you belong in that period and that they feel what they’re watching is contemporary in terms of the human behavior — that they feel a kinship with that behavior, which is a challenge if you do Shakespeare.”
