Broadway Chats: John Lithgow

He has been nominated for Oscars and Emmys, but there’s something different about being up for a Tony, says Lithgow, 66, who is nominated for best actor in a play for his role as newspaperman Joseph Alsop in The Columnist. “You’re going out to perform the piece at night, and you have the sense that everybody in the audience is aware you’re nominated for a Tony. That adds a little frisson you don’t get in movies or TV.”
