STONESTREET

Horror movies made for some sleepless nights for Morgan when he was a child.

Before returning for a fourth season of ABC’s Modern Family, Eric Stonestreet appears on Stand Up 2 Cancer’s live fundraising telecast Friday. He lost his grandfathers and an uncle to the disease, and he witnessed his mother, now a survivor, battle uterine and kidney cancer. “It taught me that life is precious and love the people in your life and do what you can,” says the actor, 40. “I didn’t go to school to research cancer. I’m too busy now to learn how to be a scientist or a doctor, so this is what I can do.” He adds: “Everybody can do something for a cause they believe in. That’s what I would encourage people to do.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan says his new horror film, The Possession (in theaters this weekend), is a throwback to the movies of the ’70s — such as Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist — that freaked him out as a child. “I remember having some sleepless nights,” says Morgan, 46. “You fall for these characters, and I just don’t know if that’s necessarily done anymore in this genre.”
