Q: We loved Smash. It seemed to be a “go” for the second season. What happened?

Look for Hayes to be a ‘Smash’ hit on NBC.

April Swaney, Berkshire, N.Y.

Never fear: New episodes of the NBC musical drama are in production, and the show is scheduled to return this winter. Emmy winner Sean Hayes is set to guest-star as a well-known actor making his Broadway debut — and driving the rest of the cast crazy in the process. The Chicago-born Hayes, 42, will be reunited with his Will & Grace co-star Debra Messing, who plays long-suffering lyricist Julia Houston. Also joining the Smash cast for its second season is Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson.
