Q: Zooey Deschanel stars in an iPhone ad and dances to Shake, Rattle and Roll. Was that Bill Haley and The Comets who originally sang it?

Sherri Copple, Berthoud, Colo.

The oldies hit was first recorded by bluesman Big Joe Turner in 1954, but it was Haley and his band’s version the same year that skyrocketed the tune to prominence. (Haley and The Comets also had hits with Rock Around the Clock and Dim, Dim the Lights.) Deschanel, 32, also has a musical pedigree: The actress, who stars on Fox sitcom New Girl, performs with indie singer/songwriter M. Ward in the duo She & Him and plays several instruments, including piano and ukulele.

How dare you speak ill of Your Highness! Seriously though, out of her 7 mvioes I watched for this episode, I gave 4 (!) of them 1-star reviews. That’s a bad week of film watching. This week is shaping up to be much better, but with an actor I find a bit toasty. But still check out Flakes when you can.
