Q: Was Jon Cryer of Two and a Half Men ever a member of the band Tears for Fears?

Nope, although you are not the only person who thinks the TV star looks like Tears for Fears singer Roland Orzabal— especially when Orzabal and Cryer both had some big hair in the 1980s. (Pretty much everybody did back then.) Orzabal formed the New Wave group in the late 1970s with fellow Englishman Curt Smith and had No. 1 hits in America with Shout in 1984 and Everybody Wants to Rule the World in ’86 — the same year that Cryer had his breakthrough role as lovelorn Duckie in Pretty in Pink.

Tears For Fears did have No. 1 hits in America with “Shout” and “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”, but both songs topped the charts in 1985, not in 1984 and 1986, as reported here. And, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” came first, reaching No. 1 in the spring of ’85. “Shout” was the followup single. It reached No. 1 in the summer.
