Smash’s Megan Hilty shares screen time with an idol.
Bernadette Peters and Audra McDonald “cracked the code on how to find longevity in the business, and that is to diversify. So I went after it,” says Megan Hilty, a Broadway actress and star of NBC’s Smash, which returns for a second season Tuesday. The gig has even led to sharing screen time with Peters. “She was my idol growing up, but now she’s playing my mother on Smash,” says Hilty, 32. “It’s crazy how many things I’m crossing off of my dream list because of Smash. I still act like an idiot around her.”

BAMBER
Playing a neurosurgeon on David E. Kelley’s TNT medical series Monday Mornings, which begins Monday, requires a certain confidence. Not a problem for Jamie Bamber, 39, the former Battlestar Galactica actor who graduated from Cambridge University. “This character is focused and sure of himself,” he says. “That’s not necessarily me, but I was putting it on very well the day I auditioned. Medical jargon is quite complex, but I can cope with it.”
